First, let me apologize for writing my bio in the first person,
but I couldn’t afford to hire 2 other people just to write a stinkin’ bio!
I was born of a kindergarden teacher and a gym coach, in their futile attempt to breed a race of master teachers. It all went horribly wrong when I was exposed to Captain Beefheart at too young of an age. (19)
I then detoured into a music career playing guitar in the SF rock scene, in bands like The Toasters and The Elliot Schneider Band, and backing up legendary reggae singer Jah Big. My biggest contribution in those days was in the promotion of Tinnitus.
Later, I played bass in the Celtic Rock band Tempest, www.tempestmusic.com with whom I recorded 4 CD’s and toured North America. We also played at one of the Woodstock reunions – although I can’t remember which.
In 2001 I released a comedy rock CD called “Creme de la Phlegm”, and in 2004 the political comedy CD, “Idiot Light”. Several cuts have received airplay on Dr. Demento and other comedy music shows around the country. Both albums have sold in excess of 25 units!
Now I am leaping head first into to the wacky world of public access television, with a comedy variety show called “Laugh Locally, with (or at) Ian Butler”. The show has been a huge success, with many big name guests, some with as many as 11 syllables.
I live in Pacifica CA with my wife, kids, and too many dogs. Our family car is purple and has hundreds of objects glued to it ...on purpose! I pay the bills by climbing trees, which sounds like the setup to some stupid joke, but actually is true. It just goes to show you, truth can be stupider than fiction.
